Awkward & Awesome Thursdays!

Brian & me geocaching a couple weekends ago!

Awkward
-Closing the car door on my hair....and not realizing it until I went to back up and turned my head. NW Iowa wind for ya!
-Red, itchy allergy eyes...that made me look like I had been partying a bit too hard. I swear I hadn’t!
-Venting about something...er someone, then having the person walk in the room....yea. I feel pretty crappy about that one.
-People continually asking me if I’m going to church sunday....
-Finding TWO more ticks on my dog!!

Awesome
-Having yummy deep fried green peppers...and cheese balls...and steak! :P
-Geocaching...again!
-The Wild winning against the Blackhawks last Sunday night!! :D
-Finding out that Summer Shandy is back on tap at the local pub.
-Shaving 52s off of my mile!
-That Instagram is available for Android now! :P

DIY: Braided Top Knot

Braided Top Knot

Is it just me or is the top knot crazy popular all the sudden? I had no idea there was even a name for this hair style until I read about it in the blog world. If your like me you’ve probably be sporting a “top knot” or what I like to call a messy bun since your pre teen years. While I do still love rocking the top knot {it’s a staple for my evenings and weekends} I like to spruce it up a bit for the work day. Enter the braided top knot! Just as easy and just as cute!

 1. Put a little bit of product in your hair. For example, some mousse or gel or pomade, but just a bit!. I find that it helps the braid from getting those lovely flyaways.

NOTE: If you want, tease your hair at this point {good idea if you have finer hair}. This will just make it look a little more messy and your hair won’t look like it’s pulled back as tight. I did not tease mine, as it’s thick and messy already. :P

2. Put your hair in a high pony tail.

3. Put your ponytail into a braid. Don’t braid the hair too tightly, otherwise it will make it shorter and you won’t have as much to wrap. Secure the end with a hair band.

4. Twist the braid around the base of the pony tail and tuck the end of your braid under and into the center of the bun.  Sorry, I didn't get the best photos of this, but it's pretty easy.

5. Now secure this sucker with bobby pins. I only needed three, but use as many as you feel necessary. I would definitely secure the end of your braid and that little tail if it’s sticking up. Then I put in two more pins, one on each side...and VOILA! Incredibly easy right?!
I like to add cute hair clips, like a flower, to the side of the bun. Just makes it a little more fun. :)

#8 Prepster

*Note: I had this all ready yesterday and just forgot to post! Sorry!

There is something about wearing a button up under a sweater that makes me feel so preppy. I wouldn’t necessarily call my style “preppy”, but then again I’m not really sure what my style is. Maybe that’s something I’ll figure out on this challenge? I definitely don’t mind a preppy look...once in awhile, just not daily. Although, with the items I’ve chosen, I feel like I have been and will be doing this type of button down/sweater combo again. Oh well!

I tried something different with my hair today...a fish tail braid down the back! I love fish tail braids! Wearing it straight down the back like this is fine [and it was my first real attempt at one, so I’ll give myself a break], but it feels a bit...conservative. Haha, I don’t know if that’s the right word, but that’s what comes to mind. I think I would just like something a bit messier and/or off to the side, like these!

Friday Favorites: BRAIDS

Is it just me or have braids made a major comeback? Or maybe they never went anywhere, but I was just too lazy to do them? In either case, I’m loving all these braids. Unfortunately, I don’t have the skills to recreate most of these, but they are still pretty to look at...and sometimes attempt. :)

 gorgeous.

Polka Dots & Buns

Polka dot skirt, thrifted. White top, gifted from Grandma! Shoes, Target.

I’m pretty sure I stole this outfit. I know I’ve seen it before, probably on one of the many fashion bloggers I follow. I checked my favorites and can’t seem to find it. I mean, sure this outfit isn’t ground breaking and I’m sure many others have worn it or something similar. However, I personally was inspired by someone to wear it...and I can’t remember where I saw it! How irritating! Oh well.

How about those shoes? These are the crazy high heels I bought for my friend’s wedding later this month. I will not lie, these are not the least comfortable shoes I’ve worn. :P Always looking for that silver lining! [which these do have!] This outfit did cause quite the ruckus at work today. The office I work in is pretty casual and it seems If you wear anything other than slacks and a sweater it’s a big deal. I don’t like the strange attention, but I do like dressing cute.

So...I guess I’ll just go ahead and rock the boat. If I just keep dressing nicely they’ll get over it sooner or later, right?

Oh, and for the subtle waves I did ...love Maegan’s bun technique. Truth be told, I didn’t watch the video [yet]. I just twisted my wet hair into little buns.

   ...And it worked!
