Style Log: Heat Wave & Floral Blouses

 [tank/thrifted, maurice's :: blouse/thrifted, route66 :: necklace/f21 :: slacks/idk, old :: shoes/jcpenny]

Holy heat wave. Ha, heat wave? No, full on crazy drought. If you live in the midwest with me, then you are most definitely feeling it too. Will it never end?! To be completely honest, I don’t really care for the normal heat of summer - but now. GAH. At least there is no humidity, thank you mother nature for sparing us some miserableness. This outfit is not heat friendly - in the least.

Here’s the story. I wore it a week ago, I sweated the entire workday and decided I would not post the pictures. Monday, I wore an adorable outfit - striped t and cute [new] green skirt. It started raining 10 minutes before I left and I wasn’t able to take photos [I wanted outside ones!]. So, I thought, I’ll take them after work. Nope, got a flippin stain on my new skirt. It did come out however, so I will wear the outfit again, just for you guys. :)

I decided to go ahead and post this, because I liked it and because these were taken in the AM, pre pit stains. Also, because I thrifted both shirts - sweet right? And just to be clear, in case I wasn’t already, I was hella hot [temperature, lol] in this outfit. Just ‘cuz shirts are gauzy and see-through does not necessarily mean they will keep you cool.

Lesson learned my friends, lesson learned.

p.s. like my cool color-organized, pinterest-inspired book case?  these are the first photos of my new living quarters that you are seeing! :)

Style Log: Red & Black Abstract(nine)

{Shirt/Kohl's, thrifted :: Skirt/thrifted :: Cardi/thrifted :: Mary Jane Heels/Kohl's}

Not much to say today, except it's friday!! Woot!  My weekend will be spent packing mainly and hopefully (if it doesn't storm or rain) we'll take a break from the packing with a picnic.

It's starting to really set in that I'm moving.  It's like, hey you're going to be out of here in 3 weeks.  Seems crazy.  I mean, I'm no stranger to moving, I moved a lot during college, but I have been at my current residence for the past three years - the most I ever stayed anywhere else was a school year (if that)...except for my parent's house of course.  My girlfriends are coming up for a visit my last official weekend here, it wasn't planned just sort of worked out that way.  So, it will be kinda of fun to have a last little hoorah and say goodbye to the cute little duplex that I've learned to call home. :)

Syle Log: Thrifty Shirt Dress

 {Dress/Thrifted, maurices :: Cardi/Kohl’s :: Shoes/American Eagle via Payless}

I went thrifting a couple weeks ago...and it was probably one of my best haul’s ever. Along with the skirt in the Mad Men post I got this awesome dress! It was a size down, so I didn’t think it would fit, but it was so darn cute I just had to try it on. Boy, I’m glad I did. It’s great for work and it’s lightweight, so it will be perfect for those hot summer days. For now, I’m going with the layered route, leggings and cardi’s are good spring “transitioning” pieces.

P.s.  Please excuse the wrinkles!!  This was an "I just worked 8 hrs and want to hurry up and take these pictures, so I can put on my sweats" photo shoot.  :P

#8 Prepster

*Note: I had this all ready yesterday and just forgot to post! Sorry!

There is something about wearing a button up under a sweater that makes me feel so preppy. I wouldn’t necessarily call my style “preppy”, but then again I’m not really sure what my style is. Maybe that’s something I’ll figure out on this challenge? I definitely don’t mind a preppy look...once in awhile, just not daily. Although, with the items I’ve chosen, I feel like I have been and will be doing this type of button down/sweater combo again. Oh well!

I tried something different with my hair today...a fish tail braid down the back! I love fish tail braids! Wearing it straight down the back like this is fine [and it was my first real attempt at one, so I’ll give myself a break], but it feels a bit...conservative. Haha, I don’t know if that’s the right word, but that’s what comes to mind. I think I would just like something a bit messier and/or off to the side, like these!

#6 - Black & Brown

I remember a particular shopping excursion I had a few years back, and when I say a few years back, I mean l was a teenager [so like 10 yeras...yikes!]. I saw this black sweater that came with an attached brown belt. I thought it was cute and picked it up to try on - fully aware of the cardinal rule every young girl is taught: Don’t wear black AND brown together! I didn’t get two steps away from the rack when both shopping buddies all but tore said sweater out of my hands and put it back on the rack. This was a traumatizing experience. Still, over the years I have almost wore brown and black together, but then I am haunted by this memory and quickly change my outfit.

Not today my friends, not today. This brave woman, along with many others have restored my faith in the brown/black combo. I will wear it with pride, despite all stares of disgust and confusion.

This is all I have for this, no real photo, sorry. I know you are disappointed, but I swear I’m not coping out! I DID wear the outfit....last Friday. I even met up with family for lunch and they didn’t stare at me in disgust or confusion. In fact I received multiple compliments. So maybe this whole traumatizing event was just in my head? Or maybe it’s just that grandmothers always think their granddaughters look fantastic? :)
