Style Log: Seeing Stars

{top/modcloth :: blazer/target :: pants/thrifted :: shoes/maurices}

Life has been uber crazy lately. We literally were out of town every weekend for a month. We were home the last couple of weekends (but I had to work one saturday for election stuff) so that was nice. Then hopefully my family will be up to visit next weekend - which I'm pretty excited about, because its the first time since I moved in with Brian. They passed through once, but that doesn't count since I didn't show them around at all. :P

I got this top when modcloth was having that huge ass 70% off sale - so this outfit shouldn't be too bad cost wise. It has a bit of a strange fit, but I still like it...and it’s something different for me, so that’s good!

Breakdown

Top $12
Tank $4
Blazer $20
Slacks, thrifted $5
Shoes, gifted $0
Necklace $6
TOTAL $47

I will admit that some of those numbers are guessing, I've had the necklaces and pants for YEARS.

Anyway, peace out
kass

Style Log: Coral Shirts & Charcoal Skirts

{top/thrifted :: skirt/jc penny, old :: heels/target}

Another style post and I’m rocking the sock bun. Meh, whatever. I like it. I don’t love this outfit the way I thought I did, now that I see the photos. Oh well :)

Okay, so help me out here. Take a look at my outfit. Go ahead I’ll wait. ….

Do you think this is work appropriate? Okay, so maybe you are like “Well, Kassie it depends on where you work.”. Alright, I work in an office setting. Hell, I’ll go one further (since I’m sure I mentioned it before), I work for a county, in the courthouse (but not for the court!). I know I’ve said similar things before and probably will again, but why is it such a huge deal when I “dress up” for work? For the past year I probably averaged wearing a skirt & heels combo (which is how my coworkers define dressing up) 2 times a week, maybe more. Yet there is always someone who makes a comment.

I will admit that the tone of office attire is generally a bit casual....actually, I think it’s getting too casual. I’ve been here four years now and I feel like a handful of people just push and push the dress code, but that’s just my personal opinion. On second thought, I did wear my colored jeans to work on a wednesday....so maybe I’m guilty of it too? I still don’t think wearing the above outfit should cause a fuss. I feel I look office appropriate. It’s modest and presents a professional image, again in my opinion.

See the way people react to my “dressing up” isn’t always positive. Often yes, but just as often their reaction is one that makes me feel like I should be feeling embarrassed over my outfit. What the what?? It’s those underhanded comments that are trying to pass as a compliment, you know what I mean. Or I’ll get the plain, “You’re dressed up today.” Period. Flat face, blank stare. Okay....how should I respond to that? I’m actually asking you btw, because I haven’t a clue. This actually happened the other day when one coworker said she wanted to wear more dresses and another told her not to start that. I asked why, because I wear them all the time. Coworker 2 snaps, yea I know. Blank stare.

Getting down to the core of this, I know I shouldn’t care what people think about something so trivial, but it does play at my insecurities. Which is a tad upsetting and frustrating. Sure maybe someone doesn’t like what I’m wearing, but do they have to tell me? Can’t they just let me walk around happy thinking I look great? (unless of course I have toilet paper on my shoe, have tucked my dress into my tights, or have spilled food on the front of me, then please tell me! ha!)

I don’t know, I just think that (and this next thought applies to life in general) instead of tearing each other down or playing on others insecurities shouldn’t we be supportive and help build each other up?

xo, kass

Style Log: Gleefully Spring

 {Slacks/Thrifted :: Shirt/Vanity, gifted :: Cardi/Kohl's :: Shoes/Merona via Target}

 Sorry for the lack of posts lately!  I meant to write yesterday {since I had it off!}, but I ended up busy doing all sorts of random things.  It was actually pretty productive.  I think I may have spring fever, because I'm drawn to yellow and other bright colors lately!

Man, I'm having a major writers brain fart.  Probably doesn't help that I'm watching Glee.  Anyone else love that show?  I could ramble on about all the reasons that show is so great, but I won't bore you.

Oh crap.  Did I just give away that I write my blog posts the night before??
Oops. :/

Style Log: Workin' It in Pjs

Misfit #6: Long Grey Cardi

{Dress/Target :: Black Shirt/Old Navy :: Cardi/Kmart :: Boots/Merona via Target}

Initial Thoughts
 I felt pretty good when I left the house this am.  I was wearing some new jewelery from Forever 21 and In Pink and I was super comfortable! I love any outfit that looks work appropriate, but feels like pj's!

After Thoughts
First let me just make one, VERY important statement.  I am not preggo!  I think that's just this dress...and the way I slouch, not stand. Haha!  Anyway, I really like this outfit...except for the grey cardi.  Honestly, I just think it's kind of ugly.  It doesn't do anything for this outfit and I can't see it doing anything for any other outfit.

Final Verdict
It's out! This guy is going to get re purposed into a couple projects I saw on pinterest. :)

Style Log: Beer, Love, and Cardigans {10 & 2 Challenge}

Misfit #2: Kohl's Tan Plaid Button Down
Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, I was feeling under the weather and didn't get any photos.  Well, if I'm being honest I never even changed out of my pjs.  That's just how it goes sometimes, eh?

{Button down/ Kohl’s :: Cardigan/ Old Navy :: Pants/ LC via Kohl’s :: Boots/ Merona via Target}

Initial Thoughts
I was once again in a rush, but when am I not? I just sort of threw this together, I’m not even sure I looked in the mirror before I left. The colors matched and I was comfy, so I wasn't super concerned.

After Thoughts
I like it. I mean I feel a bit frumpy looking at these pictures, but not in a bad way. Does that make sense? I was just so comfortable all day, it was wonderful. Plus, I love those pants and that cardi. Actually, this cardigan reminds me of my boyfriend so much. The fit is very “manish” and looks similar to something he wore on our 2nd date. Yes, I do remember what he wore on our second date. A navy shirt with an argyle cardigan, jeans, and some suede brown shoes. He looked really nice and I remember thinking that he must take pride in his appearance because he was always dressed well.

Then...I spilled an entire beer on him...yep. I’m telling you, it was love at first spill.

Final Verdict
Keeping it! I just need to work it into my outfits now!

Style Log: Date Night in the City

{Top/Old Navy :: Tank/F21 :: Pants/Lauren Conrad via Kohl’s :: Ring/Kohl's, gifted  :: Boots/Merona via Target}

  If you follow my Twitter account, then you know I’ve been having a great holiday season! I had Brian snap a few quick outfit photos in our hotel room before we headed out. I think he did pretty good considering the extra crappy lighting we were dealing with! Plus, he basically picked out this outfit for me. :) I thought maybe it was too much blue, but meh, I like it anyway.

This top may have been a little chilly for the ice skating and walking around St. Paul. However, I was grateful for the loose fit and stretch pants when we had dinner at Pazzaluna! I loved everything about this restaurant from the vibe to the service to the amazing food! For real, if you ever get to St. Paul please go splurge {it’s pricey, but totally worth it!} and have dinner here. You won’t regret it!

Style Log: Plaid & Corderoy

 {Button Down/Old Navy :: Sweater/Old Navy :: Skinny Cords/Lauren Conrad via Kohl’s :: Watch/Merona via Target :: Boots/Merona via Target}

Everything I’m wearing ['cept the boots] is new! Happy Holiday’s to me! The awesome skinny cords I got on a return, everything else was gifted. I wore this yesterday, on the ONE day I had to work this week. Today, I’m headed north for a quick stop in the Twin Cities, then onward for one last holiday celebration with my man’s mother. I’m pretty stoked, she’s up north quite a ways, so they have snow...and thus we will be snow shoeing! Should be fun and most likely quite entertaining as I’m very clumsy. I’m hoping get some great photos out of it as well!

I’ll be “officially” back after the new year, hope you have a great one!!

Style Log: Red Jacket

{Jacket/Mossimo via Target, Pants/a.n.a. via JC Penny, Boots/Airwalk via Payless}

Let me just say there is something about this jacket that just makes me fall in love with it every time I look at it. My grandma picked it out on our annual “Birthday Shopping Trip” and to my surprise it fit! [Jackets never fit me properly.] My birthday isn’t until Sunday, but since I was unable to go home last weekend my grandma sent it to me! How nice is that?! Happy early birthday to me! She also sent me some wonderful heeled oxfords from Target, I’m sure those will be making an appearance very soon.

At first I couldn’t decide if this was a coat or what, but I’ve decided it’s a late fall/early winter jacket. Either way, it’s warmer than it looks and I’m loving the rusty red color! This jacket is definitely pulling out of my dark winter color block!

Kassie

Birthday Shopping Trip

We have lots of great traditions in my family and this past weekend we did one of my favorites...Birthday Shopping!!  You see, every year my grandmothers and my mom take me out shopping for my birthday [which just happens to be exactly one week before Christmas...yea.], so that they can get me things they know I will love and that fit!  Here's a little glimpse of what I got.

*One note, the polka dot shirt on the bottom left I actually got in blue.
