Style Log: Coral Shirts & Charcoal Skirts

{top/thrifted :: skirt/jc penny, old :: heels/target}

Another style post and I’m rocking the sock bun. Meh, whatever. I like it. I don’t love this outfit the way I thought I did, now that I see the photos. Oh well :)

Okay, so help me out here. Take a look at my outfit. Go ahead I’ll wait. ….

Do you think this is work appropriate? Okay, so maybe you are like “Well, Kassie it depends on where you work.”. Alright, I work in an office setting. Hell, I’ll go one further (since I’m sure I mentioned it before), I work for a county, in the courthouse (but not for the court!). I know I’ve said similar things before and probably will again, but why is it such a huge deal when I “dress up” for work? For the past year I probably averaged wearing a skirt & heels combo (which is how my coworkers define dressing up) 2 times a week, maybe more. Yet there is always someone who makes a comment.

I will admit that the tone of office attire is generally a bit casual....actually, I think it’s getting too casual. I’ve been here four years now and I feel like a handful of people just push and push the dress code, but that’s just my personal opinion. On second thought, I did wear my colored jeans to work on a wednesday....so maybe I’m guilty of it too? I still don’t think wearing the above outfit should cause a fuss. I feel I look office appropriate. It’s modest and presents a professional image, again in my opinion.

See the way people react to my “dressing up” isn’t always positive. Often yes, but just as often their reaction is one that makes me feel like I should be feeling embarrassed over my outfit. What the what?? It’s those underhanded comments that are trying to pass as a compliment, you know what I mean. Or I’ll get the plain, “You’re dressed up today.” Period. Flat face, blank stare. Okay....how should I respond to that? I’m actually asking you btw, because I haven’t a clue. This actually happened the other day when one coworker said she wanted to wear more dresses and another told her not to start that. I asked why, because I wear them all the time. Coworker 2 snaps, yea I know. Blank stare.

Getting down to the core of this, I know I shouldn’t care what people think about something so trivial, but it does play at my insecurities. Which is a tad upsetting and frustrating. Sure maybe someone doesn’t like what I’m wearing, but do they have to tell me? Can’t they just let me walk around happy thinking I look great? (unless of course I have toilet paper on my shoe, have tucked my dress into my tights, or have spilled food on the front of me, then please tell me! ha!)

I don’t know, I just think that (and this next thought applies to life in general) instead of tearing each other down or playing on others insecurities shouldn’t we be supportive and help build each other up?

Style Log: Gleefully Spring

 {Slacks/Thrifted :: Shirt/Vanity, gifted :: Cardi/Kohl's :: Shoes/Merona via Target}

 Sorry for the lack of posts lately!  I meant to write yesterday {since I had it off!}, but I ended up busy doing all sorts of random things.  It was actually pretty productive.  I think I may have spring fever, because I'm drawn to yellow and other bright colors lately!

Man, I'm having a major writers brain fart.  Probably doesn't help that I'm watching Glee.  Anyone else love that show?  I could ramble on about all the reasons that show is so great, but I won't bore you.

Oh crap.  Did I just give away that I write my blog posts the night before??
Oops. :/

Style Log: Plaid Spectacle[s] {10 & 2 Challenge}

Misfit #8:  Brown V-Neck
This is a just a plain little shirt that I never wear.  You can't really tell in these photos, but the neckline is deep and wide, which is probably why I don't wear it.  You HAVE to put a tank under it, unless of course you like that whole falling out look. Ha!

{Both Tops/Old Navy :: Pants/Thrifted :: Shoes/Payless :: Frames/Warby Parker}

Initial Thoughts
I felt a bit frumpy, but I was comfortable.  Maybe I shouldn't say frumpy...just extra casual and sort of masculine.  And still put together and even a bit cute.
Oh hey...how do you like these frames?  They are the Finn by Warby Parker and I'm loving them!

After Thoughts
This brown shirt is so basic, but a bit blah.  However, I honestly feel like you can't have enough basic tees or undershirts.  So on that note....
Final Verdict
I'm keeping it. AND I'm going to order those WP frames.  :D

Friday Favorites: Spectacles!

If you haven't already noticed I'm one of the millions of people in the world who may have been called "four eyes" once or twice in their lives.  I've worn glasses [and/or contacts] since elementary school, so I'm pretty used to waking up and not being able to see as I hop out of bed.  I do have contacts, but for work I prefer to wear glasses [it helps with the computer screen stuff] and actually enjoy it.  I love picking out new fun frames and I have recently found an awesome site!  If you haven't been on Warby Parker yet, do it now [there's plenty of stuff for you perfect vision folks also!].  I'm seriously considering purchasing my next frames from there, so here are a few of my favorites courtesy of their Virtual Try-On Tool

The Thatcher

The Beckett                                               The Colton

I'd also like to say that they have this awesome Home Try On program where you choose 5 lenses to try on for free...at home!  I will be participating in this as soon as they have the Sinclair available in the Burgundy Fade!

The Miles                                                The Sinclair

Right now I think that the Miles and the Sinclair are my favorites.  I feel like the other three [especially the Thatcher] dominate my face too much.  Your thoughts?
