Frenziedly Reflections

I was driving to work the other day and for whatever reason a very specific memory popped into my head. I was at my best friend’s childhood home sitting on her old bed, surrounded by boxes of her stuff. We had graduated college by now and she had ended things with her long time, live in boyfriend. At the time, I was working at a local ice cream shop, because I couldn’t find a “real” job...with my 4 year degree. So, obviously I took her some of the best ice cream in the midwest to attempt to cheer her up (Seriously, if you are ever in the Quad Cities find a Whitey’s ice cream and order ANYTHING.) I don’t know if the ice cream and company helped, but it definitely didn’t hurt.

On reflection of this memory, I just thought “Wow.” We both were at very strange, awkward and disappointing time in our lives. In those moments there is no way that we could have imagined what our lives would become. I can’t speak for her, but at the time I just thought my life was...I don’t know. Not going anywhere. I’d spent my entire life in school and had nothing to show for it. That’s how I felt anyway. And, I assume, at the time she also felt sad and disappointed for spending so much time on a relationship that didn’t work out. I feel like this is a safe assumption as she is my bestie after all AND that’s how I often feel after a relationship ends.

Things have changed. She’s happily married now and she has a job she enjoys (which she didn’t at the time). She owns a home with her hubby, she’s healthy and looks great. From my view she’s happy and has a great life. I have a “real” job now (though I don’t love it, pays the bills!) and am in a great relationship. We live together and are planning a future together. See, at the time we were still kids, still figuring it out, still in over our heads. Now, well I’m still figuring shit out, but as an adult. More life experience or something. And on the occasion that I do get in over my head, I realize that I have amazing people like Tegan and Brian and my family and friends, to help me get back on top.

I realize this post is very much a stream-of-consciousness sort of thing. I apologize if it’s confusing. I don’t really have any point to this train of thought. Maybe I do...friendship is important. Real friendship is, anyway. Nurture the bonds with those you care about.

Me, Myself & I - Link Up Party!

1) What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
Pursue a life of art and travel. Specifically, photography - with National Geographic. Dream job right there folks.

2) If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with the time?
Quit my job, ha. No, but seriously. Quit my job and spend 3-4 months travelling and seeing the world and spend the last couple months at home with my family. [assuming I could afford it, but in this hypothetical I CAN! ha!]

3) If a front page news article was written on you, what would the headline be?
"LOCAL REDHEAD RIDES GIRAFFE OUT OF ZOO" hahahahaha! Idk, but that would be sweet.

4) What is your biggest pet peeve?
People not actually listening, when they say they are. {ahem, most boyfriends/husbands out there} Generally, I don’t interrupt while someone is watching tv or doing something else, but if if I do it’s because I have something that you need to know for whatever reason. When said person tells me or implies that they are aware of my presence and voice and are listening to me...and then just don’t. GAR. I hate repeating myself.

5) What is your favorite chick flick movie?
Oooo, good one. How ever can I choose? I own several movies that could be put in the chick flick category, but could also be put in other categories. SO, I’m going strictly Chick-FlicksThat-ONLY-Girls-Would-Ever-Want-To-See Category.
Okay, here it is...

Legally Blonde.

Don’t judge me, I’m allowed guilty pleasures.

Me, Myself and I Link Up

I meant to get this up this morning, but alas it did not happen (i've been sickly).  I saw this link up on Kristen's blog and I got excited because it sounded like one I'd enjoy. So here ya go!!

{photo from fam vacay, have I shared this one yet?}

1. What is your biggest phobia?
Oh man, probably spiders. Yea, most definitely spiders. Gross.

2. If you could relive any day of your life, what would it be and why?
Are you kidding? This is a hard question. I can think of many days that would be worth reliving. First...no second date with Brian, the saturday a few weeks ago when we went to Des Moines with our friends, Camp trip for the past 3 years, the Grace Potter concert night and so many more. I have a nice life. :)

3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?
Honestly, probably about where I’m at, maybe a couple years younger. But, in a few years I think that will change. It’s just at this age [mid-upper 20s] I feel like there are still so many possibilities. I feel like I can still get away with being childish and making stupid mistakes occasionally. But at the same time...I feel like there is a lot of pressure at this age to start getting your shit together and carve out a life. So Idk, it’s intense, exciting...and well will have to end at some point, eh?

4. Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
None, ha! Although, on a couple rare occasions people told me I looked like Jullianne Moore. Idk though....I think it’s just cause we both have red hair and people are crazy. haha.

Hmm...or maybe it's the cheek bones and big chin?? LOL

5. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
OMG, another toughy! Okay, well I don't know if this answer the question exactly, but here are some songs I’ve been listening to a lot lately...

Fool for a Lonesome Train by Ben Harper
Low Road by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas
Dreams by Fleetwood Mac
Stay Together by Al Green
Hearts Collide by Little Boots
The Dirty Glass by Dropkick Murphy’s
I’m Ready, I Am by The Format
Tyler by Toadies
Birds by Kate Nash

**Also, let me tell you - I tried to make a playlist for you on several sites and I couldn't!  There were always at least a couple songs they didn't have (and they were my favs!) so pfffft.  Anyway, here is a video of the first one, cuz I love me some Ben Harper.

Fallen Off

I fee like I sort of fell off the planet...the internet planet that is. I haven’t read anyone’s blogs since early last week, it feels so strange! In any case, the moving part is over, but now we just have to get me unpacked. I’ve made quite a bit of progress...the bedroom is pretty much done, the kitchen is totally done and Brian set up my computer while I was at work today. :) So, I will just keep going from room to room until it’s all unpacked! I have a few older a couple weeks ago older) outfits I can post this week, then hopefully my life will get unhectic and I can get some new shots. Until then, here’s what I’ve been up to the past couple weeks.

Theo & his new hair do! // girlfriends up for a visit // comfy friday outfit
moscow mule //cappuccino martini! // Jello shots...in a hollow orange, thanks pinterest!
outfit deets // breakfast of champs // Brian & I moving my shit!
Theo & Tyler = BFFs // Night Bags! // hazy morning before moving
Dreamsicle = diet sunkist + malibu rum) // my sleepy boys // 1st packed lunch...and it matched my book!

Happy Monday Tuesday!!

Awkward & Awesome Thursdays

I've seen this Awkward/Awesome Thursday thing on other blog, I hunted down the source {the daybook} and then linked up!  Sounds like fun! :)

yea, that's awkward....

Awkward
-The girl at Hickory Park that was laughing so hard that she squealed...then us laughing so hard we were crying...then her table catching our before mentioned laugh frenzy.
-The teenagers that I thought were crying at a sad part in Hunger Games, but it turned out they were laughing.   yea.
-Trying to draw Florida in Draw Something...it didn't look right.  At all.
-Introducing myself and Brian to my mother's coworker and then her saying, yea I know who you are, I hear about you everyday! Haha! [I guess that's also kind of awesome...]
-Getting ourselves and Theo covered in burrs...and a few ticks.

Awesome
-Finally finding a possible rental.  Pretty much the first one that will let me have Theo! Cross your fingers that it doesn't turn out to be a shack!
-Having dinner with my momma!  Instead of 4.5 hours away she was only 2!
-Starting back up my 5k training.
-My new SPIbelt.  Seriously, if you run...this is an awesome accessory! It doesn't bounce around or anything and it's super small, but expands to fit your phone, keys, etc.
-Trying to concoct the perfect Moscow Mule on Saturday afternoon...along with the grilling and bags.
-Going Geo-caching and finding a really challenging one that was not in the correct place!

Birthday Girl :)

Yes, today is my birthday. How old do you have to be before you can act all offended when someone asks your age? I don’t think I’m quite there yet, plus I doubt I’ll ever be offended by that question. Go ahead and ask me, it’s okay, promise. … I’m 27! Last year, I thought hey I’m just barely over 25, no biggie. This year I feel like, oh man ...almost 30! Obviously, I’m not almost 30 [unless your gage of “almost” is 3 years], but that’s the next “big” birthday and it just feels so close.

I generally a very reflective type of person, especially on my birthday. However, I’m going to try to spare you some of that and just say a couple things...well really one thing that sums up a lot of my reflection. It’s interesting to take a moment and think about where you’ve been and where you are in life. Especially, when you compare it to what you thought might happen or how you thought your life might me. Beware though, this can be a potentially dangerous thing to ponder, but I’m eternally optimistic, so I wasn’t too worried.  In conclusion to this thought, I will say that if you had asked me 10, heck even 5, years ago I wouldn’t not have guessed I’d be where I am today. My life may not be what I had once envisioned, but I’m okay with that. Happy with that actually. All of my choices have led me to this moment in my life and I feel really good about that in itself. Life really is what you make it and I’ve made a pretty awesome one. :)

On a lighter note, last night Brian took me out! We went to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie [I love me some Robert Downey Jr.!] and then out to dinner at the Italian Garden. Not the same as Olive Garden, lol. WAY BETTER. It’s what I would call “real” italian food. I had calamari, yummy shrimp pasta and tiramisu!  Then he took me out for martinis!  Great guy right there! :)  Oh!  And for my bday gift he got me a new flash for my camera - for real, great guy!

yummy calamari!

tiramisu!

 martinis!

Hope you had a great weekend!
