Friday Favorites: Grace Potter

So, if it hasn’t already been made very apparent, I’m a huge fan of the band Grace Potter & the Nocturnals! I featured them on a Music Monday once and I saw them in concert recently. Honestly, it was the best show I’ve ever been too. I mean, I guess I’m a bit biased since I already love their music, but it was more than that. You actually felt the music, Grace just feels so genuine when she sings. Her voice is just goose-bump amazing and you get the feeling that she is singing from her soul. Probably because she is. She writes or co writes their music...GPN are what I call real musicians. :)

I can’t find a lot online about her...well that’s not true. I’ve found some interesting interviews, but not a collective bio or anything. From what I’ve read in the interviews I’m totally convinced she should right an autobio... (hint hint to Grace!). She’s quite funny and seems to have some pretty entertaining stories to share. One interesting little fact, apparently she is legally blind and when she performs live she doesn’t wear glasses or contacts!  What's even more impressive about that is that she dances around stage and goes between singing, ripping on the guitar and rocking out on the piano.   Basically, she's pretty freakin' amazing.

Even though I [obviously] don’t know Grace or much about her, I find her incredibly inspiring. I enjoy the fact that we’re about the same age, it makes me feel like I can relate in some instances. Only some, because I am obviously not a rock goddess. But also, she comes across so down to earth and very appreciative of everyone who has helped her get where she is today. You can tell she’s worked hard in her life and actually deserves her notoriety. Oh! And have you seen what this chic wears? She has fantastic style and always looks so gorgeous!!

Style Log: Simple Black (four)

{Sweater/Gap, thrifted :: Skinnies/a.n.a :: Boots/target :: Scarf/gifted}

This outfit is my go-to.  Not necessarily these exact pieces...but the equation for them.  Neutral shirt + skinnies + boots + scarf.  It's just so effortless and looks great at the same time.  I wore this out to dinner and drinks when my family was up last weekend (yea, I'm behind on posting, ha!)

I do not have the good news that I thought I might...still waiting for an answer.  Looks like it could be less than great news now, but such is life, eh?  However, I will keep my chin up - why you ask?  Tonight I'm going to see Grace Potter & the Nocturnals!!  They are one of my favorite bands at the moment so I'm totally stoked!  Ohh, and while we are up in Minnesota we are going to go to this tapas restaurant...which is totally out of the box for me (I'm a super picky eater!), but I'm excited!  I'll try to remember to take photos of all the interesting food, so my instagram will probably be busy. :P

Okay, well hope you all have a great weekend!!

Awkward/Awesome Thursday!

(me as a dorky child..I think that's a gourd next to me)

Awkward
  • Omg, my monday was a real MONDAY (read: pain in the ass). I spent most of my working day research one stupid little problem. AND I dropped a huge book (like you find in the Recorder's office of a County - cuz that’s where I was, ha) on my foot! Luckily my big toe was up to the challenge.
  • I called my boyfriend’s step mother by the wrong name...eek. That would probably be due to the martini incident you’ll see below... lol.
  • I’ve been considering doing another remix challenge...gah, what is wrong with me?
  • Not being able to sleep due to a super sore/scratchy throat. Argh, crabby Kassie definitely made an appearance this week.
  • Burning my forehead this morning with my curling iron...and we’re talking like 2nd degree burn here. It blistered immediately and it was right before I had to leave for work. Luckily, my co workers were much less frantic than I and directed me the first aid kit that contained burn gel. Thank god! So, now I have a lovely bulls-eye (seriously that’s what it looks like) right in the middle of my forehead...but luckily I have nicely curled bangs to hide it. Ha!

Awesome
  • My family will be here tomorrow for a nice weekend visit!!
  •  Last weekend we went to Minnesota for a wedding and also saw a lot of Brian’s family...and we even got to surprise his mom, it was a blast!
  • On said MN weekend...I ordered a martini & apparently at this place they make a whole shakers worth for you. The waitress told me it would be about “3 shakes”...it ended up being 5 and then some. Which also was a bit awkward, but mostly awesome.
  • I found some more great deals at the thrift store, including a like new pair of Banana Republic shorts...for 3 bucks!! First shorts I’ve bought in about 5 years...
  • We bought tickets to see Grace Potter & the Nocturnals next Friday. Can I get an...Ooo La La! :D

Music Monday!

Music plays a huge roll in my day to day and I'm always on the hunt for new{to me} bands.  I love how music can envoke very specific and sometimes very strong emotions, it's inspiring.  In any case, I thought I'd share a few of my current favorite bands.

I've been in love with this band for the last couple of years, they are so good!  They are a husband-wife indie pop duo from the US.  They've been producing music as the Mates since 1996 and their most recent release was Mountaintops, last September.  Although, I think my favorite album is Re-Arrange Us!  They just have such an interesting and unique sound...gah!  Go ahead...listen and begin to fall in love! <3

Ohmygosh, this is such a great band and I have such a huge girl crush on their awesome front girl! :P

"Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are like a modern-day version of Tina Turner stroking the microphone in a spangled mini-dress while fronting the Rolling Stones circa Sticky Fingers." via gracepotter.com

So true!  This band had such an awesome sound!  It's sort of a bluesy rock sound, when I first listen to the self named album all the way through I was surprised by the diversity.  Soooo great! :)

This is a really cool, special, acoustic version of my favorite song!

Old Crow Medicine Show
Another great band!  They have a folksy rocker sound...and honestly when I heard them and then looked up a video for the first time I was surprised that they were young. Haha!  I believe they've been band since the late 90s, but I only discovered them a few years ago.  This is one band I would love to see live!

 ---------------
I don't know if "Music Monday" is going be a weekly thing or not, but possibly.  I think I'm going to be playing around with the "blog schedule" and such in the next few weeks, so just bear with me please!
{And also, if you see a post you particularly like, then tell me!}
